Morning calls have the best chance of a same-day window; later calls are usually booked for the next day. Hours are Monday to Saturday 8 AM to 10 PM and Sunday 10 AM to 10 PM, and an evening or weekend visit costs the same as a weekday one.

Clear the stairs and the floor around a basement washer or garage freezer. Check the obvious first: the oven's own breaker if its display is blank, the wall switch near the sink for a dead dishwasher, and the outlet for a silent wine cooler. If a gas appliance is involved, know where its shutoff is.

Water on the floor from a washer, dishwasher or fridge line, a burning smell, sparking, a dryer that runs unusually hot, or a refrigerator that will not hold temperature all get the earliest window we have. If you smell gas at the range, dryer or furnace, do not switch anything on or off; take everyone outside and call 911 or Washington Gas from there. We are not a 24/7 emergency service, but we run 7 days a week until 10 PM and move safety calls to the front of the route.
