Kenmore appliances were made by other manufacturers. Type the first three digits of the model number, the part before the dot, to see which one built yours. The sticker is usually inside the door frame, under the washer lid or on the inside wall of the fridge.
Enter a prefix such as 106, 110, 795 or 253.
Prefixes vary by era, so the technician confirms the maker from the full model number. See the full prefix table or read the Kenmore model-prefix guide.

Kenmore is a brand, not a manufacturer. It belongs to Transformco, the company that took over the former Sears brands, and Kenmore appliances have always been built by other makers under contract: Whirlpool, LG, Frigidaire and Electrolux, GE and others, depending on the product and the year. The first digits of the model number, before the dot, identify which company built your unit. Our Kenmore prefix guide lists the common mappings.
Because a Kenmore is really a Whirlpool, LG, Frigidaire or GE underneath, the failure pattern follows the maker. Whirlpool-built Kenmore top-load washers come in for lid locks, drive components and pumps; Whirlpool-built refrigerators for defrost faults, evaporator fans and ice makers; and the matching dryers for heating elements, thermal fuses and drum rollers. Those are the Kenmore units we see most, and the majority are single-visit repairs with parts that are normally stocked.
LG-built Kenmore refrigerators and laundry share LG's strengths and weak spots, including compressor failures on some refrigerators and bearing and pump issues on front-loaders. Frigidaire-built Kenmore ranges, dishwashers and refrigerators tend to need elements, igniters, drain pumps and defrost parts. The technician identifies the maker from the prefix first, then diagnoses the unit as that maker's product and works from the matching service data rather than a generic Kenmore manual.
There is no Kenmore factory making parts. Parts come from whichever company built the appliance, through Whirlpool, LG, Electrolux or GE channels, and in many cases a part listed under the maker's own model fits the Kenmore version. Once the technician has read the full model number and matched it to the maker, the part is checked against that model and priced in your quote before it is ordered. Some parts for discontinued Kenmore models are no longer available, and we tell you when that is the case.
The tag location depends on who built the unit, but the usual spots hold: inside the fresh-food compartment on refrigerators, under the lid or inside the door on washers, inside the door opening on dryers, on the door edge of dishwashers and behind the door or in the drawer on ranges. Read the whole number including the digits before the dot; prefixes such as 110 and 106 generally mean Whirlpool, 795 means LG, 253 means Frigidaire and 665 on a dishwasher points to Whirlpool. These vary by era, so the technician confirms the maker on site.
Kenmore appliances use the code system of the company that built them, so there is no single Kenmore code list. Once you know the maker from the prefix, our pages for Whirlpool washer codes, Whirlpool dishwasher codes, LG washer codes, Frigidaire oven codes and GE washer codes often apply. Note the code and the model number when you book and the technician matches it to the right service data.
Elite and Pro were Kenmore's upper trim lines. An Elite front-load washer is often LG-built and an Elite refrigerator may be LG or Whirlpool; Pro cooking products were built by other makers too. The trim name does not change who made it or where the parts come from, so the prefix is still what we go by. Many Kenmore units still in service are older machines, and the repair-or-replace conversation comes up more often than with other brands.
Kenmore has never manufactured its own appliances. Sears sourced them from Whirlpool, LG, Frigidaire (Electrolux), Samsung, Bosch and others, and the first three digits of the model number tell us which factory built yours. That matters for Kenmore refrigerator repair in particular: it decides which parts fit, which service procedures apply and how quickly we can source the component.
| Prefix | Built by | Typical appliances | What we usually see |
|---|---|---|---|
| 106 | Whirlpool | Refrigerators, Elite side-by-side and French-door | Defrost faults, evaporator fan, ice maker and water valve problems. Parts cross directly to Whirlpool numbers and are widely stocked. |
| 110 | Whirlpool | Top-load and front-load washers, dryers | Lid locks, drain pumps, shift actuators on top-loaders; heating elements, thermal fuses and rollers on dryers. Among the most repairable laundry units we work on. |
| 665 | Whirlpool | Dishwashers | Wash pumps, control boards, door latches and leaking sump seals. |
| 795 / 796 | LG | French-door and bottom-freezer refrigerators (795), washers and dryers (796) | Linear-compressor cooling loss, ice-maker fan noise and main-board faults on refrigerators; drain pump and door-lock errors on laundry. Parts come through LG. |
| 253 / 417 / 790 | Frigidaire (Electrolux) | Refrigerators and freezers (253), laundry (417), ranges and ovens (790) | Defrost timers and thermostats on older refrigerators, bake igniters and element failures on ranges. |
| 401 / 402 | Samsung | Refrigerators (401), washers and dryers (402) | Ice-maker frost and fresh-food fan icing on refrigerators; see our Samsung repair page for the pattern. |
| 630 | Bosch | Dishwashers | Heat-pump and E24/E25 drain faults, usually a clogged pump cover or filter rather than a failed part. |
Yes for the large majority of units. Because the appliances were built by Whirlpool, LG, Frigidaire, Samsung or Bosch, the repair parts are the manufacturer's own parts under a different label. Our technician reads the prefix and the full model number, cross-references the manufacturer part number and sources it from the manufacturer's distribution, so a Kenmore refrigerator repair is no slower than the equivalent Whirlpool or LG repair. The exceptions are some discontinued electronic control boards on 15-plus-year-old units; when that happens we tell you before anything is ordered and compare the repair with replacement.

Refrigerators: inside the fresh-food section on the left wall or ceiling. Washers: under the lid or inside the door frame. Dryers: inside the door opening. Dishwashers: the top edge or side of the door. Ranges: the frame behind the storage drawer or under the cooktop lip. Send the full number when you book online and we arrive with the right parts on the truck more often.
Kenmore refrigerators were built by Whirlpool (prefix 106), LG (795), Frigidaire (253) and Samsung (401). The same fault can have a different cause depending on the maker, so start with the guide for your prefix. Kenmore displays often show the same codes as the brand that built them.
Warm fresh-food section with a cold freezer usually points to the defrost system or the evaporator fan.
Cooling loss, ice-maker fan noise and main-board faults follow the LG pattern.
Older units often need a defrost timer or thermostat. Beeping usually means a door or temperature alarm.
Ice-maker frost and fresh-food fan icing are the common complaints.

Book through our refrigerator repair or freezer repair service, and send a photo of the model sticker so the right parts come on the first visit.
A clear brand, model number and symptom history help the technician separate a part failure from installation, use pattern or maintenance conditions.
Share the full model number so part compatibility, appliance design and service access can be checked before the visit.
Note whether the issue is constant, intermittent, cycle-specific or related to heavy use.
Built-in appliances, stacked laundry, tight cabinets and condo access can affect diagnosis and repair planning.
The technician can compare age, condition, parts availability and repair cost before you approve work.
Nobody called Kenmore. The brand belongs to Transformco, which took over the Sears brands, and the products are built under contract by Whirlpool, LG, Frigidaire and Electrolux, GE and others. The model-number prefix tells you which one made yours; our prefix guide explains it.
We work on out-of-warranty Kenmore refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, dishwashers, ranges and ovens, cooktops and over-the-range microwaves across the DC area, as an independent company with no tie to Transformco or Sears Home Services.
Appliance Surgeon charges $75 for the diagnostic visit on a Kenmore appliance, or $115 for a double unit (such as a double wall oven, washer-dryer combo or stacked laundry), and the fee is credited toward the repair if you approve the quote. For appliance repairs, labor starts at $200 and stays there on about 9 in 10 repairs; more complex jobs can reach $450. Parts are extra and listed in the quote. Typical price ranges by appliance are in our appliance repair cost guide.
Same-day is possible when the route has room, and next-day is the usual fallback. We work every day until 10 PM, opening at 8 AM except Sunday at 10 AM, and the number is (771) 222-7117.
It depends on the maker, but refrigerators usually have it inside the fresh-food section, washers under the lid or inside the door, dryers inside the door, dishwashers on the door edge and ranges behind the door or drawer. Send the whole number, including the prefix before the dot.
Send the code along with the full model number. The prefix tells us whether to read the code as Whirlpool, LG, Frigidaire or GE, and the technician confirms the fault on site before ordering anything.
Kenmore warranty claims go through Transformco or the retailer's service arrangements, and we are not part of that network. We repair out-of-warranty Kenmore units and can give an independent diagnosis on a covered one if you want it.
Many Kenmore units in service are older machines, so age weighs more than usual. A pump, element or lid lock is normally still worth it; a compressor or a hard-to-find board on an old unit may not be. The technician gives you the comparison with the quote.
The technician identifies the maker's part number, checks availability and quotes it before ordering. Because parts come from the original maker, Kenmore parts are often easier to find than people expect, though some older models have gaps.
Every Appliance Surgeon repair is covered by a 90-day warranty on parts and labor, starting the day the repair is finished. The technician explains the terms before the job is complete.
