Who makes Whirlpool

Whirlpool is the flagship brand of Whirlpool Corporation of Benton Harbor, Michigan. The same company owns Maytag, KitchenAid, JennAir, Amana, Admiral and Roper in the United States, so those brands often share platforms, controls and parts with Whirlpool-branded machines. Whirlpool's European appliance business moved to Beko Europe in 2024, which means Whirlpool models sold in the UK and EU are now a different company's products.

What tends to fail

On Whirlpool top-load washers the frequent calls are a lid lock that will not latch, a drain pump blocked by a sock or coin, worn suspension rods that let the tub bang during spin, and a shift actuator that stops the basket from spinning. Front-load models tend to come in for door locks, drain pumps and bearings. Whirlpool dryers most often need a thermal fuse, heating element or igniter when they run without heat, and drum rollers or a belt when they squeal or stop turning.

Whirlpool refrigerators usually reach us for a defrost problem that leaves the freezer frosted and the fresh-food side warm, an evaporator fan that has gone noisy or quiet, an ice maker that has stopped, or a water inlet valve that leaks. Dishwashers tend to need a drain pump, a wash motor or a door latch, and a control board when the lights blink and nothing runs. On ranges and cooktops the common repairs are oven igniters, bake elements, surface burner switches and spark modules. Most of these jobs are a single part fitted once the diagnosis confirms it.

Parts

Genuine Whirlpool parts come through Whirlpool's own parts distribution, and because the company makes so many brands, a Whirlpool part number often fits Maytag, Amana or KitchenAid machines of the same design. Common washer, dryer and refrigerator parts are usually in stock locally or arrive within a few days; control boards for older models can take longer or be discontinued. The technician checks the part against the full model number and puts it in the written quote before ordering anything.

Finding the model number

Whirlpool puts the model tag in different places by product. On top-load washers it is usually under the lid or on the back of the cabinet near the top; on front-load washers and dryers, inside the door opening. Refrigerators carry it inside the fresh-food compartment on a side wall or near the top. Dishwashers have it on the edge of the door, ranges under the cooktop lid or on the frame behind the storage drawer, and microwaves inside the door frame. A photo of the tag with your booking lets us check parts in advance.

Error codes

Whirlpool codes are usually an F number followed by an E number, such as F9E1 on many washers for a long drain, and the meaning changes with the appliance and the model. Not the same as Whirlpool in Europe

Since 2024 Whirlpool-branded appliances in the UK and EU have been Beko Europe products, so manuals, code lists and parts diagrams on European sites describe different machines.
