GE Appliances has been owned by Haier since June 2016. The company is headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky, at the site known as Appliance Park, and its brands are GE, GE Profile, Cafe, Monogram, Haier and, in the US, Hotpoint. The appliance business is no longer part of the industrial General Electric company, though the GE name stays on the products. Many GE models are still assembled in the US, with some lines sourced from other plants.
On GE refrigerators the ice maker and the water dispenser generate a large share of calls: no ice, slow ice, or a dispenser that drips. Defrost problems are also frequent, showing up as a freezer that frosts over and a fresh-food section that creeps warm. Fans, door gaskets and main control boards round out the list. The repair usually means testing the defrost heater, thermistor and board, replacing the failed part, and checking the evaporator for ice before closing up.
GE top-load washers tend to come in for lid locks, drain pumps and drive or mode-shifter faults; front-load models more often need a door boot or bearings. Dryers mostly fail at the heating element, thermal fuse, drum rollers or belt. GE dishwashers come in for drain pumps, door latches and control boards, and ranges for bake elements, oven igniters and temperature sensors. Over-the-range microwaves usually need door switches or a magnetron, and the technician weighs the part cost against the age of the unit before recommending the repair.
Genuine GE parts are sold through GE Appliance Parts and the usual distributor network, and common items such as elements, igniters, water valves and ice makers are often stocked locally. Boards and some sealed-system parts may take longer, and older models can be out of production. The technician confirms the part against the full model number on site and quotes it before anything is ordered.
GE puts the tag in a few usual places. On refrigerators it is normally inside the fresh-food compartment, on a side wall or near the top. On ranges look behind the door on the frame or inside the storage drawer; on dishwashers on the edge of the door; on washers under the lid or inside the door; on dryers inside the door opening. Microwaves carry the tag inside the door frame. Snap a picture of the tag with your phone and attach it to the booking.
GE uses different code sets on different product lines, so the same letters can mean different things on a washer and a dishwasher. Our pages for GE washer codes, GE dryer codes, GE dishwasher codes and GE oven and range codes explain the common ones. Note the code before you reset the appliance and tell us when you book; the technician confirms the cause on site rather than ordering a part from the code alone. If a GE ice maker has stopped, our GE ice maker guide covers the checks worth doing first.
The GE Appliances family includes GE Profile, Cafe and Monogram, and the Hotpoint name in the US. Parts and service data for these lines run through the same channels, but Monogram built-in refrigeration and pro-style ranges can take longer to source parts for and often need two people to pull. Tell us the line and the model number when booking so the right amount of time is set aside.
A clear brand, model number and symptom history help the technician separate a part failure from installation, use pattern or maintenance conditions.
Share the full model number so part compatibility, appliance design and service access can be checked before the visit.
Note whether the issue is constant, intermittent, cycle-specific or related to heavy use.
Built-in appliances, stacked laundry, tight cabinets and condo access can affect diagnosis and repair planning.
The technician can compare age, condition, parts availability and repair cost before you approve work.
GE Appliances, based in Louisville, Kentucky, has been owned by Haier since June 2016. It is no longer part of the industrial General Electric group. The same company makes GE Profile, Cafe, Monogram, Haier and, in the US, Hotpoint appliances.
We repair out-of-warranty GE refrigerators, freezers, dishwashers, washers, dryers, ranges and ovens, cooktops and over-the-range microwaves across DC, Northern Virginia and suburban Maryland. We are an independent repair company, not a GE warranty servicer.
Appliance Surgeon charges $75 for the diagnostic visit on a GE appliance, or $115 for a double unit (such as a double wall oven, washer-dryer combo or stacked laundry), and the fee is credited toward the repair if you approve the quote. For appliance repairs, labor starts at $200 and stays there on about 9 in 10 repairs; more complex jobs can reach $450. Parts are extra and listed in the quote. Typical price ranges by appliance are in our appliance repair cost guide.
Same-day or next-day visits are possible when the route has room. We work seven days a week, Monday to Saturday from 8 AM to 10 PM and Sunday from 10 AM, and the earlier you call (771) 222-7117 the more likely a same-day slot is open.
Inside the fresh-food section on a refrigerator, behind the door or drawer on a range, on the door edge of a dishwasher, under the lid or inside the door on laundry. Send a photo of the tag when you book.
Send the exact code and the appliance type when you book. We use our GE code pages as a starting point and confirm the fault with tests on site, because a code points to a circuit, not always to a single part.
Our work is on out-of-warranty units. If your GE appliance is still covered, the claim goes through GE Appliances and its authorised network. We can still diagnose the problem and tell you what it is likely to need.
It depends on age, the failed part and what the rest of the unit looks like. A heating element on an older dryer is usually worth doing; a compressor on an old refrigerator often is not. The technician gives you the quote and a plain view of the options before you decide.
If the part is not on the truck, the technician quotes it with an expected arrival window and orders it only after you approve. Most GE parts arrive within a few days; discontinued ones may take longer or turn out to be unavailable, and we tell you before you commit.
Every Appliance Surgeon repair is covered by a 90-day warranty on parts and labor, starting the day the repair is finished. The technician explains the terms before the job is complete.
