Today Magic Chef is a brand of MC Appliance Corporation (CNA International) of Wood Dale, Illinois, and the current lineup is mostly compact and countertop products sold through big-box stores: compact refrigerators, freezers, wine and beverage coolers, compact dishwashers, portable laundry and microwaves. Older Magic Chef ranges were built by Maytag, which bought Magic Chef in 1986; those ranges are out of production, and parts for them come through Whirlpool channels where they still exist.
Compact Magic Chef refrigerators, freezers and beverage coolers usually come in for a unit that runs but does not get cold, which is often a thermostat, a start relay or a failed fan, or for a compressor that has stopped altogether. Many small wine coolers use thermoelectric cooling instead of a compressor, and on those the cooling module or its fan is the usual fault. Door gaskets and hinges wear too. These are entry-level units, so the technician is frank about whether a repair makes sense before any part is ordered.
Compact washers and dryers tend to need drain pumps, belts, door or lid switches and heating elements, and the portable washers also come in for leaking fill hoses and quick-connect fittings. Older Maytag-built Magic Chef ranges are usually a bake element, an oven igniter, a surface burner switch or an oven thermostat, which are simple jobs as long as the part is still available. Microwaves are mostly door switches and diodes, and we service them only where the design allows safe access. Each repair starts with testing the suspect part, not swapping it.
Parts for current Magic Chef products come from MC Appliance and its distributors, and the selection is thinner than for a full-size brand: thermostats, relays, fans and gaskets are usually available, but boards and compressors for compact units often are not stocked, or are not worth fitting given the age of the unit. Parts for the Maytag-era ranges go through Whirlpool's channel, where a fair number of elements and igniters are still stocked and some controls are long gone. The technician verifies availability against the full model number and quotes the part before it is ordered.
Compact refrigerators and wine coolers from Magic Chef usually have the tag on the back of the cabinet or on an inside wall near the top; chest freezers on the outside of the cabinet; compact and portable washers on the back or inside the lid or door; microwaves on the back or inside the door frame. On an older Magic Chef range look under the cooktop, inside the storage drawer or around the oven door frame. The tag can be small and faded on these products, so a close photo helps.
Most Magic Chef products are too simple to show codes; a compact refrigerator or an older range has a dial and nothing else. Compact dishwashers, portable washers and some microwaves do show an E code or a letter-number code, and the meaning varies by model and by the factory that built the unit. There is no single Magic Chef code list, so write down the exact code and the product type and include it when you book; the technician reads it against the manual for your model and confirms the fault by testing.
Much of the current Magic Chef catalogue is small countertop equipment: portable ice makers, hot plates, toaster ovens and air fryers. Appliance Surgeon does not repair small countertop appliances from any brand. The Magic Chef products we service are the compact refrigerators, freezers, wine and beverage coolers, dishwashers, compact washers and dryers, ranges and microwaves listed above, where parts and safe access allow.
A clear brand, model number and symptom history help the technician separate a part failure from installation, use pattern or maintenance conditions.

Current Magic Chef products come from MC Appliance Corporation, part of CNA International in Wood Dale, Illinois, and are mostly compact and countertop units sold through big-box retailers. Older Magic Chef ranges were made by Maytag, which bought the brand in 1986, and those are no longer produced.
We service out-of-warranty Magic Chef compact refrigerators, freezers, wine and beverage coolers, dishwashers, compact washers and dryers, ranges and ovens, and microwaves where safe service is practical, across DC, Northern Virginia and suburban Maryland. Small countertop appliances are not something we repair, and we are not a factory warranty servicer for the brand.
Appliance Surgeon charges $75 for the diagnostic visit on a Magic Chef appliance, or $115 for a double unit (such as a double wall oven, washer-dryer combo or stacked laundry), and the fee is credited toward the repair if you approve the quote. For appliance repairs, labor starts at $200 and stays there on about 9 in 10 repairs; more complex jobs can reach $450. Parts are extra and listed in the quote. Typical price ranges by appliance are in our appliance repair cost guide.
A same-day visit is possible when the route has room, and the following day is the usual alternative. For compact units the first visit is often the diagnosis, with a candid view on whether the repair is worthwhile, and the repair follows once the part is confirmed. Hours are 8 AM to 10 PM Monday through Saturday and 10 AM to 10 PM Sunday.
On the back of the cabinet or on an inside wall for compact refrigerators and wine coolers, on the outside of a chest freezer, on the back or inside the door of a compact washer or microwave, and under the cooktop or in the drawer of an older range. Send a close-up photo, since the tags on these units are often small.
Send us the exact code and the product type when you book. Magic Chef codes differ by model and by the factory behind the unit, so the technician checks it against the manual for your model and then tests the appliance before quoting.
A Magic Chef product still under its manufacturer warranty should be referred to the maker's own warranty process, which we are not part of. We handle out-of-warranty repairs. If you want to know what is wrong with a covered unit before contacting the manufacturer, we can diagnose it.
That depends on the unit. A thermostat, relay, fan, gasket, pump, belt, element or igniter is a sensible repair; a failed compressor or a control board on a compact refrigerator or wine cooler usually is not, and the technician will say so before you commit. For an older Maytag-built range, the deciding factor is usually whether the part still exists.
The technician confirms the part number from the model tag, checks whether MC Appliance or the Whirlpool channel still has it, and adds it with the lead time to the written quote. Nothing is ordered until you approve, and if the part is unavailable we tell you plainly so you can decide on a replacement.
Every Appliance Surgeon repair is covered by a 90-day warranty on parts and labor, starting the day the repair is finished. The technician explains the terms before the job is complete.
