Bosch facts

What to know about Bosch appliances

Who makes Bosch

Bosch home appliances are made by BSH Home Appliances, the group behind the Bosch and Siemens appliance brands, which has been wholly owned by Robert Bosch GmbH since 2015. BSH also owns Thermador and Gaggenau, so those brands share engineering and parts channels with Bosch. Bosch dishwashers for the US market are built in New Bern, North Carolina; other Bosch appliances sold here generally come from BSH plants in Europe and elsewhere.

What tends to fail

Dishwashers are most of our Bosch work. A unit that will not drain, usually from a blocked drain pump or a pump that has failed, is the most common complaint, followed by no heat or a cycle that runs for hours, which tends to point at the heat pump or circulation assembly, and by leaks that trip the float in the base. Control modules and door latches come up too. The repair normally means pulling the unit forward, testing the pump and heater circuit, and replacing the failed assembly.

Bosch refrigerators, many of them counter-depth or built-in, come in for ice makers, defrost faults and control boards, and a sealed-system repair on a built-in is a bigger job. Ovens tend to fail at the control board, the door hinge or lock, the bake element or the convection fan motor. Induction cooktops need generator boards and touch controls; gas cooktops need igniters and spark modules. The compact washers and condenser dryers Bosch sells here come in for door locks, drain pumps, blocked condensers and sensors, and range hoods for blower motors and switches.

Parts

BSH supplies Bosch parts through its US parts organisation and distributors, and because Bosch, Thermador and Gaggenau share platforms, many parts are common across the three. Dishwasher pumps, heaters, latches and inlet valves tend to be available quickly; modules, door assemblies and refrigerator parts more often need ordering, and some are only sold as complete assemblies. Bosch parts are usually keyed to the full E-number including the suffix after the slash, so the technician reads the tag and confirms the part before quoting it in your estimate.

Finding the model number

Bosch labels show a model number marked E-Nr and a production number marked FD, and both help. On dishwashers the tag is on the top edge or the side of the inner door, visible when the door is open. Refrigerators carry it inside on a side wall; ovens on the frame behind the door; cooktops underneath, with a duplicate often stuck to the cabinet or kept with the manual; washers and dryers inside the door; range hoods behind the grease filter. Send a clear photo so the full E-Nr with its suffix is readable.

Error codes

Bosch codes start with E followed by a number on most appliances. Our pages for Bosch dishwasher codes, Bosch washer codes and Bosch dryer codes cover the frequent ones, and the post on E24 and E25 walks through the drain checks worth doing before you call. Oven, cooktop and refrigerator codes vary by model; note the code exactly and tell us when you book, and the technician reads it against the service data for your E-Nr.

Built-in and panel-ready units

A good share of Bosch dishwashers and refrigerators in this area are built in or fitted with cabinet panels. The repair is the same, but the technician needs extra time to remove the panel or pull a built-in refrigerator, and sometimes a second person. Let us know when you book if the unit is panel-ready or built in, and whether the toe-kick and side screws are accessible, so the right time is allocated.

Frequently asked questions

Bosch repair questions

Who makes Bosch appliances?

BSH Home Appliances, which has been wholly owned by Robert Bosch GmbH since 2015 and also owns Thermador, Gaggenau and the Siemens appliance brand. Bosch dishwashers for the US are built in New Bern, North Carolina.

Do you repair Bosch appliances?

We repair out-of-warranty Bosch dishwashers, refrigerators, ovens and ranges, cooktops, microwaves, washers, dryers and range hoods in DC, Northern Virginia and the Maryland suburbs. We are an independent company and not a BSH warranty servicer.

How much does Bosch appliance repair cost?

Appliance Surgeon charges $75 for the diagnostic visit on a Bosch appliance, or $115 for a double unit (such as a double wall oven, washer-dryer combo or stacked laundry), and the fee is credited toward the repair if you approve the quote. For appliance repairs, labor starts at $200 and stays there on about 9 in 10 repairs; more complex jobs can reach $450. Parts are extra and listed in the quote. Typical price ranges by appliance are in our appliance repair cost guide.

Do you offer same-day Bosch repair?

When the route allows, yes; otherwise next-day. We are open seven days, until 10 PM every evening, starting at 8 AM Monday to Saturday and 10 AM on Sunday. Calling (771) 222-7117 early improves the odds.

Where is the model number on a Bosch appliance?

Look for the E-Nr on the tag: on the top or side edge of a dishwasher door, inside a refrigerator, on the frame behind an oven door, under a cooktop, inside a washer or dryer door and behind the filter on a hood. Include the characters after the slash.

Can you help with a Bosch error code?

Send the code and the E-Nr when you book. Our Bosch dishwasher, washer and dryer code pages give the usual meaning, and the technician confirms the cause with tests on site before any part goes on the quote.

Do you service Bosch appliances under manufacturer warranty?

In-warranty Bosch repairs are handled by BSH's authorised service network, and we are not part of it. We repair Bosch units once the manufacturer's warranty has run out, and we can diagnose a covered unit if you would like an independent assessment first.

Is my Bosch appliance worth repairing?

Bosch units are generally repairable, and a pump, heater, latch or element is usually worth doing on a dishwasher or oven with life left. A sealed-system fault on a built-in refrigerator or a complete control set on an older unit is where the technician will lay out both options with the quote.

What happens if a special part is needed?

The technician identifies the part by E-Nr, checks its availability and quotes it; the order goes in only after you approve. Shared BSH parts are usually quick, some European-sourced parts take longer, and we tell you the expected window up front.

Are repairs covered by a warranty?

Every Appliance Surgeon repair is covered by a 90-day warranty on parts and labor, starting the day the repair is finished. The technician explains the terms before the job is complete.
