FiveStar is a brand of Brown Stove Works in Cleveland, Tennessee, a small company that builds its pro-style gas and dual-fuel ranges in the United States. The line is narrow by design: freestanding ranges, cooktops and matching griddle and grill sections. Because the company is small, its parts come straight from the factory rather than from a national distributor network, which shapes how a repair is planned and how long a part can take.
FiveStar ranges are mostly open-burner gas appliances, and the common call is a burner that sparks constantly or will not light: a spark module, an igniter electrode with a cracked ceramic, or food and moisture bridging the electrode after a cleaning. The open-burner design means spills reach the igniter more easily than on a sealed burner, so cleaning solves a share of these calls before any part is touched. Gas ovens come in for weak glow-bar igniters, safety valves and the oven thermostat, which on many FiveStar models is a mechanical one.
Dual-fuel ovens add bake and broil elements, a thermostat or sensor and a relay. Griddle and grill sections have their own thermostats and igniters, and a reversible griddle plate can warp or sit unevenly. Doors are heavy, so hinge springs and gaskets wear. Most FiveStar faults are mechanical and visible once the range is opened up, and the technician confirms the cause by testing the part before writing the quote.
FiveStar parts come from the Brown Stove Works factory in Tennessee, and because it is a small company, some items are built when ordered rather than pulled from a shelf. Igniters, spark modules, thermostats and valves are usually quick; doors, griddle plates, grates and other large pieces can take longer. The technician identifies the part from the full model number and serial, confirms it with the factory and gives you the price and expected lead time in the quote before anything is ordered.
The FiveStar rating plate is usually behind the kick panel or the storage drawer under the oven, and on some ranges it is on the oven door frame or on the back of the unit. Cooktops carry it on the underside. The plate also shows the gas type the range was set up for, natural gas or propane, which matters if the range has been moved or converted. A photo of the plate sent with the booking saves time on the visit.
Most FiveStar ranges are mechanical gas appliances with no display, so there is no error code to read and no FiveStar code page on this site. What helps instead is a plain description: which burner or oven, whether the igniter clicks, whether the oven lights at all and how long it takes, and whether the problem started after cleaning or a move. Some dual-fuel models have an electronic oven control that can show a code; if yours does, write it down and tell us when you book.
FiveStar's open Vari-Flame burners can be lifted off and cleaned, which keeps the igniters working, but they also need to go back exactly as they came off: a burner head sitting a little off center or an electrode bent out of line produces the same no-light symptom as a failed part. Dry the burner parts fully after washing before relighting. If a burner still clicks or stays out after that, the problem is usually the electrode or the spark module, and that is where the technician starts.
A clear brand, model number and symptom history help the technician separate a part failure from installation, use pattern or maintenance conditions.

FiveStar is a brand of Brown Stove Works, a small company in Cleveland, Tennessee, that builds pro-style gas and dual-fuel ranges in the United States. Parts come from the factory.
Appliance Surgeon repairs out-of-warranty FiveStar ranges, dual-fuel ovens, cooktops and griddle or grill sections, and looks at ventilation around them, in Washington, DC, Northern Virginia and suburban Maryland. We are an independent company with no tie to Brown Stove Works and do not perform its warranty service.
Appliance Surgeon charges $75 for the diagnostic visit on a FiveStar appliance, or $115 for a double unit (such as a double wall oven, washer-dryer combo or stacked laundry), and the fee is credited toward the repair if you approve the quote. For appliance repairs, labor starts at $200 and stays there on about 9 in 10 repairs; more complex jobs can reach $450. Parts are extra and listed in the quote. Typical price ranges by appliance are in our appliance repair cost guide.
A same-day FiveStar visit depends on the day's route; when it has room we come that day, otherwise the next. Appliance Surgeon is open Monday to Saturday 8 AM to 10 PM and Sunday 10 AM to 10 PM, every week, and (771) 222-7117 reaches us during those hours.
Behind the kick panel or storage drawer under the oven on most ranges, and on some on the oven door frame or the back. Cooktops have it underneath. Send a photo of the plate with the booking, because it also shows the gas type the range is set for.
FiveStar ranges rarely have a display, so describe what is happening: which burner or oven, whether it clicks, whether it lights and how long that takes. If you have a dual-fuel model with an electronic oven control that shows a code, give us the exact code and when it appears, and the technician checks it against the service data for your model before ordering anything.
Our FiveStar work is on ranges that are past the manufacturer's warranty. If your range is still covered, the claim goes to Brown Stove Works and the servicers it authorizes, not to us, and going there first keeps the coverage intact. We can diagnose the fault and tell you what we find if you want an independent assessment.
Nearly always. A FiveStar is a simple, heavy, mechanical range, and the parts that fail (igniters, modules, thermostats, valves, hinges and gaskets) are a small expense set against a new pro-style range. The technician gives you the repair price, the age and condition of the range and the part lead time after the diagnostic so you decide with the facts in hand.
Parts that are not in hand are quoted with their price and the lead time from the factory before you approve anything. Common FiveStar wear parts usually ship within days, while large or made-to-order items can take weeks, and we tell you which applies. When it arrives we return to fit it, and the diagnostic fee you paid is applied to the repair.
Every Appliance Surgeon repair is covered by a 90-day warranty on parts and labor, starting the day the repair is finished. The technician explains the terms before the job is complete.
