Amana Dryer Won't Spin? Belt, Idler and Switch Fixes
Amana dryers, built on the Whirlpool family platform, are simple, sturdy machines, and when the drum stops turning the cause is almost always one of three mechanical parts. Better still, there is a ten-second test that identifies the most common one before anyone opens a panel.
The hand-spin test
With the dryer off, open the door and turn the drum by hand. A drum that spins freely, almost too easily, with none of its usual slight resistance, means the belt has snapped: nothing connects the drum to the motor anymore. A drum that will not budge, or fights you, points instead at a seized bearing, roller or an object jammed between drum and bulkhead. Either way, you now know which conversation you are having.
The belt, and the switch that hides behind it
A dryer belt is a long, thin loop that lives under real tension for years; snapping is its natural retirement.
